My mother’s note
Last night I decided to look through some boxes that have been in storage for many years. In a grey shoe box, tied with red yarn, I found a treasure that brought back fond memories of my mother. Today my mother is 102 years old.
The morning I started my high school freshman year, my mother had taped to my dresser mirror a note. The note stayed on that mirror until I graduated from high school. When I left home the note went with me until it found a place in the old shoebox.
Be such a man, and live such a life, that if every man were such as you, and every life a life like yours, this earth would be a Paradise.
Mom always said she couldn’t remember who’s quote it was, but she thought it a good one.

I stole the quote and put it on my screen saver. I needed something new on there.

Some days, some moments, and some people, truly help us experience bits of paradise in our lives. Thank you Oris for your caring insight that saved your mother’s saying many years ago; and for the decision to share it with the world today, on your 102 year old mother’s birthday. What a loving, wise tribute. It is my pleasure to call you friend.
